Apple has partnered with Veteran Affairs (VA)
to give those who served our country access to their health records via the iPhone.
Access to health records through the Apple Health App has been available to iPhone users since early 2018.
However, access to this data is limited to hospitals and medical systems that work with Apple to provide users with access to their folders.
has begun working with some patients on the iPhone during a test this summer. She can now offer this feature to any veteran who is an iOS user and is overseen by the Veterans Health Administration.
For those who do not, Veterans Affairs Canada is the largest federal agency and largest integrated healthcare system in the United States, providing services to more than 9 million veterans.
The VA also provides 1,243 medical centers and ambulances to help these veterans.
Although the VA has historically integrated various health care applications that meet the needs of our male and female service providers, their goal was rather unique, such as smoking cessation or personal care.
Apple’s latest version of the Health app
is much more comprehensive, allowing these veterans to view all medical records-lab tests, diagnoses, medicines, vaccines, and other health-related information-in their phone’s Apple Health app.
Access to personal health records is a painful issue for many patients.
For some systems, they must obtain permission to share their own information with other physicians and hospital systems.
It is also an archaic process for printing paper files and faxing information. Contrast this with Apple’s Health Records feature.
That gives veterans complete and convenient access to play a more active role in their own healthcare in an accessible digital environment and in a confidential environment.
“The Health app updates these records regularly so that patients can quickly and privately access an integrated snapshot of their health profile via AV at any time,” states a statement from Apple.
